Used Cooking Oil – UCO

Used cooking oil, used frying fat. It is a mixture of animal and vegetable fats used in the process of so called deep frying.

At present, the most popular fats that are components of frying fat include vegetable oils or their palm, sunflower and soya oil based mixtures. Frying fat also contains fats of animal origin such as lard or beef tallow.

Glycerine

Crude glycerine 80%

It is obtained in the process of production of methyl esters as an additional product. It is characterised by a yellow-brown colour and a specific odour.

Refined glycerine 99.5%

It is obtained in the process of production of methyl esters. To achieve higher quality it is subjected to the process of refining. Owing to this process, refined glycerine 99.5% is compliant with rigid requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia which determines standards for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, guaranteeing the highest quality of products that meet its standards.

Fatty acids

Natural fatty acids are a part of fats or can be found in a “free” form (so called  FFA free fatty acids).

Fatty Acid Methyl Esters FAME

Fatty Acid Methyl Esters,  both vegetable as animal, esters obtained from rapeseed oil known as RME (Rapeseed Methyl Esters), moreover it is also possible to distinguish esters obtained from: sunflower oil (SFME Sun Flower Methyl Esters), or soybean oil (SME Soybean Methyl Ester) as well as many others.

They are obtained in reaction of catalytic esterification (transesterification) with methanol of fats contained in vegetable oils (i.e. in rapeseed oil). FAME are used as biocomponents in  diesel or as an independent fuel (so called biodiesel).

Vegetable oils

In a broader meaning refer to all substances with oily texture, obtained from any plant.

In a narrower meaning a vegetable oil is any liquid fat of vegetable origin, which is liquid at room temperature. They can contain small quantities of other lipids such as waxes, free fatty acids,  partial glycerides or unsaponifiable substances.

Animal fats and fish oils

Products of natural origin, obtained from sea and land animals. They are a mixture of esters, glycerine and fatty acids. Animal fats are composed mainly of glycerides of palmitic, stearic and oleic acids. It is obtained in smelting of adipose tissue by means of a wet or dry method.

Stearin

Stearin is used in production of candles. The mixture of acids is a breakdown product of stearin – ester, the process which is a method used to obtain pure glycerine. However, at present stearine is rarely used in production of candles as it is replaced by a cheaper paraffin. Candles made of stearin produce less smoke.
